Dear RSSA member,

It is a great pleasure and privilege to announce the 6th RSSA/Leuven Course on Head and Neck Imaging, 08 – 10 November 2019 at Spier Estate, Stellenbosch, Cape Town.

This hands-on, interactive teaching course is conducted by internationally renowned radiologists from Belgium, Netherlands, and the USA under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Robert Hermans of the Department of Radiology, University Hospitals, K.U. Leuven, Belgium.

A teaching course of this nature is of particular importance to South African radiologists. Head and Neck anatomy and pathology are notoriously difficult to understand and master. We are daily confronted with challenging patients. The results of a missed or delayed diagnosis can have far reaching and devastating consequences for the patient.

For each topic, the relevant underlying anatomy and pathology will be reviewed, the optimal imaging strategy discussed, and the possible abnormal findings on imaging illustrated. How to limit the differential diagnostic list by combining the clinical information and imaging findings will be addressed, where appropriate. Apart from lectures, practical teaching will be done during workshops, where the participants will have the opportunity to test and expand their knowledge by reviewing clinical cases, with direct feedback from the teachers.

The course will take place at the historic, beautiful and tranquil Spier Estate, against the backdrop of the Stellenbosch mountains and vineyards. Due to the technical and infrastructure requirements to present such a course, enrollment is limited to 100 participants.

On behalf of the RSSA and SASNI, we welcome Proff Robert Hermans, Frank Pameijer, Yannick De Brucker and Dr Ilona Schmalfuss to South Africa and in particular, Cape Town.
